History

Professor Lapwood came from the Britain. As the international famous scholar in geophysics and mathematics, he acquired the bachelor and master's degree of math in Cambridge and started to teach in mathematics department of Yenching University from 1936. In 1952, professor Lapwood had to back to England for many reasons, till early 80s in the twentieth century, he had his third visit in China to give lectures with his wife. On invitation of Beijing Normal University, Lapwood came to China to give lectures, on April 11th, 1984, he died from myocardial infarction. As he was dying, he urged wife not to open memorial meeting, not to set monument, the only wish was left his bone ash in China. Obey to his will, his students and friends set his bone ash on the hills by the WeiMing Lake, and planted three yellow roses he liked.

Unlike Professor Lapwood, the bone ash of professor Sailer hadn't been buried here, only with his name on the small gravestone. In July 1981, professor Sailer died unfortunately, in memory of them, the alumnus carved his name on the stone along with Lapwood's.
